Director: V. K. Prakash
Writer: Jayasurya, Skanda, Ananya, Vani Kishore
Cast: Lal, Shwetha Menon, Asif Ali, Mythili
Year: 2011
Language: Malayalam

I saw this movie today. I was very reluctant to watch this V.K. Prakash movie, because I did not like Police and Mullavalliyum Thenmavum, the other two VK malayalam movies that I watched. Although I loved  his English movie, Freaky Chakra.

Positive was written by S. N. Swamy, the writer of the CBI Diary Kurippu series. This is also a "whodunit" crime thriller -- think Agatha Christie. We are fooled into suspecting several innocents. In the end, the actual suspect is revealed and it was someone we never expected.

Positive is a very watchable movie. It has a solid plot, unlike Police and Mullavalli. It is an easy watch that doesn't require too much thinking. If you've seen the CBI Diary series, you know exactly what to expect, minus Mammootty's glamour.

I am a fan of Jayasurya and I love to see him in comedy roles. But I felt that this serious role suited him, at least in the scenes with the "Vinny" character. The sexual tension between them was palpable.

I hate the overt preaching that is prevalent in Malayalam movies these days. It shows a lack of talent on the part of the writer and director. Any "message" they wish to convey should be done subtly, not by having a character preaching to the audience in a monologue -- how boring!

Positive is a simple entertainer, without a "message". It's an easy watch -- not a waste of time or money.
